Impact in Action

During 2025, Berlin Packaging advanced its sustainability priorities across Innovation & Circularity, Climate, Responsible Supply Chain Management, Waste Reduction, and Community Engagement. Key accomplishments include:

Innovation & Circularity

  • Supplied 14,810 metric tons of post-consumer recycled material, a 14% increase from 2024.
  • Helped 75 brands strengthen their sustainable packaging strategies through initiatives that included product launches featuring sustainability attributes.
  • Conducted more than 120 life-cycle assessments to help brands understand and reduce the environmental impact of their packaging.
  • Launched digital supplier scorecards and AI-driven tools that support extended producer responsibility compliance, SKU-level audits, fee calculations, recyclability scoring, and modeling of packaging redesign impacts.

Climate and Renewable Energy

  • Achieved Science Based Targets initiative validation for near- and long-term greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets.
  • Procured 5,581 MWh of renewable energy credits across the Americas and EMEA, including enough renewable electricity to cover 100% of electricity use in the Americas region.
  • Established 2025 as the company’s climate planning and performance-tracking baseline following substantial improvements in data quality, organizational coverage, and emissions-reporting methodology.

Berlin Packaging’s validated climate targets include achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2050. The company also aims to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 44.8% by 2030 and 90% by 2050, compared with its 2022 baseline. For Scope 3, Berlin Packaging targets a 51.6% reduction in emissions per U.S. dollar of revenue by 2030 and a 97% reduction by 2050. (We established 2025 as our internal baseline and are currently validating it with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), while preparing to validate our new targets against the SBTi Corporate Net-Zero Standard V2.0)

Responsible Supply Chain Management

  • Assessed 282 suppliers through third-party ESG platforms in 2025.
  • Achieved a 94% engagement rate among targeted suppliers, up from 76% in 2024.
  • Conducted on-site audits for 50% of assessed suppliers.

Waste Reduction and Energy Efficiency

  • Advanced TRUE zero waste certification efforts at the Napa Valley warehouse, which achieved a 98.7% landfill-avoidance rate in 2025. Recycled nearly 1.4 million pounds of material at the Pittsburgh warehouse, a 28% increase over 2024.
  • Implemented a standardized waste-segregation system across EMEA operations and achieved 80% employee participation in related training.
  • Earned ENERGY STAR certification for the Gateway 80 – 2920 property in Napa Valley, which scored higher in energy efficiency than 92% of similar buildings nationwide.

Sustainable Packaging Innovations

The report showcases product innovations that apply circular design principles without compromising performance, aesthetics, usability, or production efficiency.

FUTURefill, Berlin Packaging’s patent-pending refill system for beauty applications, enables consumers to reuse the dispensing pump for up to 25 refill cycles. Its connector mechanism supports clean product transfer while helping reduce contamination, leakage, and residual product mixing.

XOCO transforms hazelnut shells, a food-industry by-product, into a functional filler for polypropylene-based beauty packaging. The material supports premium aesthetics, established polypropylene recycling streams, and technical requirements for cosmetic and fragrance components.

Additional innovations include Easy Jars, a right-weighted glass collection for premium food products, and Nocturne Sculpted, a spirits bottle range that combines material optimization, production compatibility, tactile customization, and premium shelf impact.

“Customers increasingly face complex regulations, difficult packaging trade-offs, and fragmented data,” said Balaji Jayaseelan, Vice President of Sustainability at Berlin Packaging. “We help them turn that complexity into a clear plan by connecting sustainability strategy with design, engineering, sourcing, regulatory intelligence, life-cycle assessment, and commercial execution. Our goal is to make better packaging decisions faster and ensure those decisions create value for both the business and the environment.”
